Different types of capacitors

There are different types of capacitors which are used for different purposes. Capacitors are normally divided in two groups - fixed capacitors with fixed capacitance value and the other is variable capacitors with variable or adjustable capacitance values.   7. Pseudo capacitors were named for their ability to store electric energy electro-chemically with reversible faradaic charge-transfer
  8. Hybrid capacitors combine double-layer and pseudo capacitors to increase power density
  9. Silver mica, glass, silicon, air-gap, and vacuum capacitors are named for their dielectric

Capacitors work in different ways

A capacitor is just like a battery. Then the question comes how capacitor works? The capacitor works in different way from battery. Capacitors and battery both are used for storing electrical energy. But battery can produce electrons due to chemical reactions where as a capacitor cannot produce any electrons, it can only store them. Inside the capacitor the terminals connect into 2 metallic plates which are separated by a non-conducting substance or dielectric. It is easy to make any capacitor by using 2 aluminum foil and a piece of paper. Capacitor of this type cannot storage the electric energy but it will work.
